About
The Symposium is the Society's fortnightly reading and discussion group. Each term takes a single large theme shaping politics and society today and tries to understand it from an academic perspective: the ideas, arguments and assumptions underlying current debate rather than the debate itself.
The emphasis is on underlying currents — the positions and frameworks now emerging in newer intellectual and political circles — which have not yet reached mainstream discussion but are coming to shape it. Readings are circulated in advance and discussed at the meeting. We aim to create a friendly and low-pressure environment. Everyone is welcome.
