About
The Symposium is the Society's fortnightly reading and discussion group. Each term takes a single large theme shaping politics and society today and tries to understand it from an academic perspective: the ideas, arguments and assumptions underlying current debate rather than the debate itself.
The emphasis is on underlying currents — the positions and frameworks now emerging in newer intellectual and political circles — which have not yet reached mainstream discussion but are coming to shape it. Readings are circulated in advance and discussed at the meeting. We aim to create a friendly and low-pressure environment. Everyone is welcome.

Our intention is to make the Symposium as open and accessible as possible. We welcome everyone of all political views and interests.

We meet once every 2 weeks for about 2 hours, with a member delivering a 20-30 minute presentation at the beginning before moving into more relaxed discussion groups.
